The Austrian soprano Marianna Herzig first trained as a cellist before devoting herself to theatre and singing from an early age. After completing her Bachelor's degree with distinction at the Mozarteum Salzburg under Michèle Crider, she continued her Master's studies at the Bayerischen Theaterakademie August Everding with Prof. Íride Martínez.
Her focus on historically informed performance practice was shaped above all by collaborations with Vivica Genaux, Josef Wallnig, Andreas Scholl, Hansjörg Albrecht, Evelyn Tubb, Werner Ehrhardt, Terry Wey, and many others.
Marianna is a prize-winner at international competitions including the Haydnwettbewerb, the Kammeroper Schloss Rheinsberg, the Mercatali Wettbewerb (chamber music), and the G. Blobel Award "Addicted to Bach," as well as a scholarship holder of the Hasse-Gesellschaft München and Live Music Now Salzburg.
As a chamber musician, she maintains close ties with the Salzburger Hofmusik (dir. Wolfgang Brunner) and L'arte del mondo (dir. Werner Ehrhardt), collaborations that have taken her to the Musikwochen Millstatt, the Festival St. Gallen (A), the concert series 11-11 in Olching, the Bachbiennale Weimar, and the Festival der Haydnregion Niederösterreich, among others. She has also appeared with the Mandelring Quartett most recently at the Festival Concerti Corti.
On the operatic stage, her roles have included Serpina in LA SERVA PADRONA, Vespetta in PIMPINONE, Henriette in DIE ÄHRENLESERIN (released on CD with cpo), Dalinda in ARIODANTE, Hodel in ANATEVKA, Isifile in IL GIASONE, Blonde in DIE ENTFÜHRUNG AUS DEM SERAIL at the Kammeroper Schloss Rheinsberg, Grille/Papagei in PINOCCHIO at the Theater Osnabrück, a sea sister in ANDERSENS ERZÄHLUNGEN at the Residenztheater München, Bellezza in Handel's IL TRIONFO, and most recently Elisa in IL RE PASTORE with the Kammerakademie Potsdam.
From summer 2027, Marianna will be part of the renowned young artist programme "Le jardin des voix" performing as Carolina in IL MATRIMONIO SEGRETO under the direction of William Christie and Paul Agnew with Les Arts Florissants on stages across Europe.
